As much as I love Tetris I don't really see how this is going to improve anything Tetris DS already offered.

That large playing screen seems interesting. I'm expecting you can go on the other players side and that you only need to complete a row of ten instead of the entire row.

I hope they release the NES version too... on second thought, I hope that they port all of the Gameboy games over to the Virtual Console... that would be awesome. So many great games. Nintendo is sitting on a cash cow, man. It would be foolish for them not to port over the Gameboy classics.

I think they are waiting to release the next proper handheld before doing a "Virtual Handheld" service.

I wouldn't want to play it on handheld.
I want to play it on a TV. Maybe they'll do both...

Remember the Super Game Boy? They should release Game Boy games for Virtual Console as if they were being played on that on the actual Super Nintendo console.

Yeah, I remember. It was a great idea.
Hopefully, they'll remember how great it was. Plus it would make them a ton of money. They have nothing to lose.

Yeah Jonno, Tetris was invented by Alexey Pajitnov. He used the game to test his computer at the time, and Nintendo tried to get the rights to it, but the KGB was trying to get the money from it. It's an interesting story. You can watch a documentary on it at http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=3637639460474263178
It's at the end of the documentary, but you should watch the whole thing... it's amazing. Interviews with Shigeru Miyamoto and everything. I get a little teary everytime I watch it.

I never really took interest in Tetris DS since I seemed content enough with the first two instalments, but this will do well to get a lot of people involved beyond just the old gameboy phase, even maybe the elders of the household. I'll be keeping an eye on this one

DJ Triforce: awesome link!
I'm another who'll be getting this one. I've only ever owned Tetris on the NES & Gameboy. I no longer have the NES copy--haven't for some time--and would prefer the bright, pretty colors of this over the GB version. There, I said it.

Infinite!
I mean, sure, some people got Tetris for the [insert system here], but once it sold out, it sold out. Hopefully, the only supply issue for WiiWare will be bandwidth.

The best Tetris game ever was Tengen Tetris on NES, which was recalled for copyright issues. For six months it directly competed with Nintendo's version until the courts ordered it removed from store shelves. It is one of the most coveted NES titles for hard-core collectors, and I own a copy of it
There is even a two player co-op mode, and when you complete a level, up to six little dancing sprites appear on the screen, depending on how well you performed. It's a great way to rest up for the next round, however once you hit level 17, the game continues indefinitely if you don't hit the ceiling. The music is better, the graphics were cleaner, and the game mechanics were so much smoother than the licensed version. Once you have played the Tengen version, you will never want to play the licensed version [NES] ever again.
Just don't ever expect it to appear on the virtual console...

The only tetris I've played was an online Flash version for free. It was pretty fun, except it wouldn't save my high scores. I hope this version saves your scores, as well as have leaderboards(singleplayer and multiplayer) because then it would be a "must-buy" for me. Otherwise, I'll just continue to play it online for free.

14 Jun 2008, 03:35 GMT
Man.. I play soooooo much tetris online on my DS
I got it about a month ago and I've played over 600+ games. I absolutely cannot wait until this comes out. Online Tetris is so freakin fun and it's a billion times more fun than doctor mario. I was worried that there would be no 4 player (what a let down, Dr. Mario) but now that I see 6 person multiplayer, I just can't friggin wait... Between this and Strong Bad, I can't decide what I want more. Please don't make me wait long Hudson!!!

This is a absolute must have for adult and old-school gamers.
This will sell....
Believe me, this will be a hit all over the world.
Nintendo is playing their cards right by releasing this,
hopefully they release it around the Christmas season, where this will be definite hot ticket.
I'ma get this. Wi-Fi? Sweet!

24 Jun 2008, 00:31 GMT
@pApEr y0sh!
Because it's Tetris.
For me, Tetris is one of the few falling-block puzzlers that I like(besides Lumines and Meteos), and I never liked most of Mario's spin-offs(more of a Sonic man myself, though Meanbean Machine sucked arse), so you're basically asking us to choose between a classic puzzle game(my favorite puzzle game) and a Mario spin-off that's basically Puyo-Puyo(my least favorite puzzle game) with a twist. Not to mention it did what Online RX failed to do, 6 player online vs., BABY!

@dazza- lol
@mr.niceguy- really, tetris never really interested me that much, idky, ( i think ive said that a lot). Dr. mario is a great puzzle game with a good twist, unlike tetris which is just a bunch of falling blocks.

This Has.. what the 20th Tetris game. stop making those, thats enough!
47. pApEr y0sh!
26 Jun 2008, 23:31 GMT
yes. they are falling pills. but at least the pills have a point in life. they kill the viruses that would corrupt the mushroom kingdom if it werent for dr. mario. the blocks dont really... do anything
@over9000- exactly my point
48. strade32
27 Jun 2008, 00:09 GMT
the blocks try to destroy you. that is the blocks point of life.
49. pApEr y0sh!
28 Jun 2008, 01:33 GMT
no. the blocks pile up to get to the top of the screen and escape the game cause even they dont like their own game

I love Tetris, it's right up there with Meteos and Lumines II. I was planning on getting Tetris DS, but now that this is coming out, I can save my money.
I never played Dr. Mario before, but it seems more like Puyo Puyo with a twist, and I was down right blinded by the multitude of colors in that game! Plus, it was the simplicity of Tetris that one me over anyways("the best games are simple to learn, difficult to master"), though, that is odd to say considering Lumines is my favorite game, yet it is probably the most complicated falling block puzzler around.

56. breaderer
21 Jul 2008, 02:54 GMT
sadly the only block puzzler I like was Meteos (God that game was good)
but they had to ruin it by making the sequel Disney oriented. At least this hasn't happened to tetris....yet..
57. Mickeymac
22 Jul 2008, 03:20 GMT
@breaderer
Yeah, Meteos is my absolute favorite Puzzle game, and it came at a time when I had absolutely nothing else on my DS to play, and it kept me addicted for quite a while. I really hate that the sequel was so screwed up. If you have a PSP, I'd suggest Lumines. It's made by the people who made Meteos, and it's pretty fun, though it does take a bit of work to understand and utilize the whole combo thing. There is a demo out, it's from Japan, but you can just look up "PSP demos" on Google, and you'll find someplace you can get it from, and you don't need a Japanese account to play it. I don't even have the whole game, I just entertain myself with the demo!
Now on to Tetris - It's my third favorite Puzzler, and I'm happy to see it hasn't screwed itself up with "innovations" without remaining exactly the same as the original.
@PaperYoshi
You do know Tetris was the first falling-block game, right? Nearly every game that came afterwards is a variation of that original game( at least ones that kept the falling block motif).

Now that I seen some screenshots, it looks like tetris DS.

I know I said I was looking forward to this game in an earlier comment, but I don't know now. I bought Tetris DS recently. While I'll argue that Tetris is Russia's greatest export next to vodka (enjoyed responsibly), I'm not that hardcore a fan. I'll wait and see.

Alot of people comment about this being another Tetris on another system blah..blah...etc. Let me remind you. You cannot kill Tetris, it cannot die, its immortal, you can play it in heaven. If a system come out with not Tetris, then Tetris will hunt that system down. Fear the Tetris

What they should do is put Gameboy games on the Virtual Console then download the Gameboy games to the DS
