Prepare To Eat Until You Belch On Monday

Soon our North American friends will be able to stuff their faces on a virtual feast as Major League Eating: The Game is up on WiiWare this coming Monday.

At first we were a bit dismissive of this game, but it actually seems to be shaping up to look like it could be a half decent game. Heck it’s even got online play and leaderboards. It certainly appears to be in a different league from offenders such as Beer Pong so we will reserve judgement for now, well at least until the review!

So what do you think readers? Will you be joining in the binge eating belch-fest? Check out the press release direct from Mastiff Games below:

Hey Wii Owners ... It's Time to Eat!

Major League Eating: The Game" Launches Monday, July 14, 2008 for WiiWare

SAN FRANCISCO, CALIF. - Jul 11, 2008 - Video game publisher Mastiff announced today that the first videogame based on the exciting world of competitive eating will launch exclusively for WiiWare on July 14th, 2008. Major League Eating: The Game features the world's greatest gurgitory athletes competing across a variety of foods and venues.

As featured on ESPN during the Nathan's Famous Fourth of July International Hot Dog Eating Contest, NY, MLE: The Game is built much like a classic fighting simulation, with offensive attacks and defensive counter moves, MLE: The Game requires players to master a smorgasbord of weapons including bites, burps, belches, mustard gas and jalapeño flames while cramming and chewing food at a world-class pace. It's not for the faint of heart, the slow of reflex, or those with an overly strong aversion to a Technicolor reversal of fortune.

Major League Eating: The Game uses the Wii Remote to simulate a variety of eating techniques including the cram, toss, and 'typewriter.' Burp-offs and Hot Potato challenges during the contests keep the competition intense and eaters on their toes. Major League Eating: The Game is for one or two players, offers online play and a leader board. MLE: The Game also features eleven of the best-known professional eaters in the world including Takeru Kobayashi, the Japanese eating phenomenon, and American Joey Chestnut, current champion of the world together with eaters such as Tim 'Eater X' Janus, Patrick 'Deep Dish' Bertoletti, Crazy Legs Conti, Sonya 'The Black Widow' Thomas, and 'The Lovely' Juliet Lee.

"Top level competitive eaters are more than brilliant athletes and tacticians, they are more than fierce competitors. These brave men and women are artists of the alimentary canal, warriors who create living poetry with each wiggle of the epiglottis. Each gurgitator is like a classical musician in a symphony of salivation, A pile of hot dogs sing like a Stradivarius in the hands, mouth and stomach of maestros like Joey Chestnut or Takeru Kobayashi. It took more than thirty artists, engineers and designers, and of course the Wii's motion sensitive controller and excellent online abilities, to recreate the Major League Eating experience as a videogame. But we did it." says Bill Swartz, Head Woof at Mastiff.

Despite its July 14th launch date, curious Francophiles should note that Major League Eating: The Game has nothing to do with Bastille Day. More information on Major League Eating: The Game can be found at http://www.mlegame.com

No matter how good it is or isn't, people will still complain that it's too high on the sales charts. Especially if it's above the beloved Star Soldier game.

My predictions for Monday were correct though.

I hope at least that stupid Beer err Pong Snatch or whatever is released on Monday as well. Why I would want that? To get rid of the shovelware, and get it done with.

Oh the humanity! I was hoping for something good this Monday and it appears my hopes have been dashed. There is a chance there might be another release along with Major- oh who am I kidding? Gah, even if this gets a good review I think I'll be too stubborn to get it...

Look on the bright side, everyone: It's gotta be better than SPOGS racing! XD

I think I'll pass though, especially if it's 1000 points. This doesn't look a whole lot better than the Bite Night minigame in The Simpsons Game.

Sounds vaguely WarioWare-esque.

Heh, completely forgot about this game. All this talk of 8-bit Robots pushed it out of my head.

Anywho, This game has had me curious since day one. I may download this, not on day one mind you. I need to save my remaining blocks for Strongbad's Cool Game, (also I have no wii points). I think I'll wait for Nintendo's Memory solutions before I take a chance on MLE.

Guess I've got nothing to look forward to this week. Oh well, there's still hope for VC, or just play more of my own stuff, for some reason I get so caught up in thinking about getting something new, I forget to play what I got.

Avatar

22. Objection_Blaster United States 12 Jul 2008, 01:56 GMT

@Startos World of Goo isn't coming out until Septmeber at the earliest from everything I've heard/read. As for this game, it sounds liek they at least put a good effort, but it doesn't appeal to me because of its content and how it portrays Americans (and it doesnt seem that fun.) I hope we get rid of Pong Toss this week, or at least ahve a good VC this week. After all, when was the last time we got a must-have VC title? The closest I can think of is Metal Slug, which isn't a must-have and that was almost 2 months ago ( I think.)

As far as Monday? Definately not.

Heh.. I had a feeling. "Day late and a dollar short" is what will be my reply on Monday when we find out the price point.

"Day Late" because it's talking about the 4th of July on the 14th. Sorry, everyone's already forgotten about that by now. Too late. And why mention Bastille Day? Very strange, that. Unless your game features a guillotine somehow, utterly irrelevant. :P

"Dollar Short" because there's little chance this will clock in under 1000 points - not with online play and all the money invested in this by Mastiff. I wouldn't be surprised if it comes in at 1500, but that would totally kill any potential sales. 1000 is even a tad high.

Still, though it is the worst possible launch date I could imagine and will likely be too costly for "try it and see" type sales, it will do well. Online pie-eating contest, that's "casual gold". BallKirby1 is right though, if you could use your Miis it'd sell a lot better. Still, it'll be up there sales-wise with TV Show King in all likelihood.

Major League Eating helps keep you healthy, too. All the fun of a pie-eating contest, but zero calories... In fact, you will burn calories wagging the Wiimote about as you virtually eat.

touché, I just bought my copy of Nintendo Power V 231, and I swear to god, there's only about 1/3 of the games from the "Best of the Best" list on Virtual Console, and lots of them are Nintendo published games, so they can't use that 'we can't get the rights to that game' line again; THEY OWN THE GAME!!
