Nintendo Direct June 2024 Confirmed To Boost An Otherwise Quiet Year For Switch

It would be kool if they came out with some surprise titles nobody saw coming just to go out with a bang, but that's not really going to happen so close to end of life.

Hmm, I'm interested to see how they pad out Jul - Dec. Other than the Nes World Championship game, perhaps another couple of remasters lined up for Christmas.🤔
I can forsee lots of Splatfests, and some N64/SNES games being added to Switch online to keep things ticking along...
It really depends on how much Nintendo would rather save for the Switch successor at this point while keeping the Switch itself going..
Perhaps they will be generous and go out with bang and we will get lot's of Switch announcements 🤣😄

At this point, I'm not expecting to ser much new, but at least I really hope to finally see Metroid Prime 4 (there's still a version for the OG Switch, right?). And also the HD Zeldas and F-Zero GX HD, please!

With that I would be more than happy. I still have a HUGE backlog lol.

Metroid Prime 4 will be a cross-platform launch with the new console, if it comes to Switch at all. I expect B-list releases, spin-offs and remasters to pad out the year, which I'm absolutely fine with at this stage in the Switch's life.

I'm not expecting anything big. It wouldn't make any sense for Nintendo to release another big exclusive for switch, if they can use it to boost the next console. Looking back at the history of the big N, every last year of a console since the N64 was pretty bad with games. When Nintendo is done with a console they are pretty much done right away and start complete focus on the next.

There is still so much to play for me, like Metroid Dread and the Xenoblade Chronicles 3 DLC. A quiet time would be fine.

Very much looking forward to the last Switch games.

As others have said, I don't expect much other than ports/remakes/remasters to pad things out until the next big system arrives.

Would be a great time for that rumored Fire Emblem 4 remake.

Please announce Metroid 4 for this year.

Honestly I don't really have wishes for new Switch games. But some remakes would be nice. Maybe LoZ The Wind Waker or Xenoblade Chronicles X?

I'm totally fine with smaller titles and some remasters to fill out the last year of the Switch. Got a massive backlog to get through.

A Direct this much in advance? Go Nintendo!

Yes, just a new AA, the long awaited remasters, and another "small seller" AAA for the end of the year (like Hyrule Warriors was in 2020...or Metroid Prime 4 XD) + a lot of discounts and player's choice games editions.

Im sure the June Direct will deliver some solid game announcements. Not expecting anything top tier though.

Maybe they surprise drop metroid prime 2 remastered like the first game, and announcing they'll make the third (remastered) game. And make metroid prime remaster 1-3 collection (and metroid prime 4) for switch 2 😃

This is very exciting news, can't wait to see what's coming in the 2nd half of 2024 for the current Switch.

Surely Metroid Prime 4 has to be the big title for this holiday season. I can't think of anything else it could be, too soon for another Pikmin, Zelda, Xenoblade or Fire Emblem and we only just got a new main Mario game last year and a paper mario game coming up.

So with that in mind I'm hoping to see MP4 or remasters of 2&3. Also I think it's time for a new Mario Party game and fingers crossed ARMS 2. Other than those maybe it's time to bring back Star Fox and Kid Icarus or maybe it's time for Nintendo to release a brand new IP.

For third party it's obvious we will see some Level 5 games, SMT Vengeance and the obligatory Square Enix exclusive.

If Prime 4 isn't coming to switch they can f*** right off. Granted, I don't think the other three are anywhere near as good or ground breaking as people generally say (Prime 1 is outright badly designed in a ton of areas, figuratively and literally. And that remake did almost nothing to fix that) but I wanna stay optimistic. It's not like retro are anything like they used to, afaik, with most of the staff from the gamecube days gone by now and almost 20 years of gaming in-between.

It's gonna be a backlog year

They are making games for Switch 2, and is why it slowed down.

Me: Eh, not really. I think I will get impressed more from Wholesome Direct 2024 with a lot of cute / cozy indie games.

December game could be interesting if they do a switch/switch2 game like they did with breath of the wild.

I'm just glad to get confirmation ahead of time for once, even if it doesn't narrow down the day I need to take off from work in the slightest.

Honestly it's not a quiet year from Nintendo for me, if we're getting TTYD that alone makes it a big year.

Yep, like I said yesterday, there could still be one or two unannounced major titles in the pipeline. I hope one of these is the long-rumoured DK game, supposedly being developed by the Odyssey team. But, of course, MP4 would be great as well.

They'd be leaving money on the table if they didn't have a big title this holiday season. Sure, they need new, exclusive games to sell Switch 2 hardware, but software is pure profit.

I recon Nintendo decided to announce this direct so far in advance (by direct announcement standards) because they probably realised “our investors are gonna start panicking because we have nothing with an actual release date beyond June”.

Investors have been know to panic at the drop of a hat made out of lighter than air gas, meaning it didnt actually drop in the first place

They're definitely holding onto a new 3D Mario and Mario Kart for the Switch 2 next year ...so I'd expect just smaller titles and another requested remake or two. Just enough to carry them through the Switch's last holiday season. If we'd just get Wind Waker HD I'd be all set until the next console, honestly. The big reveal in the direct might be Metroid Prime 4, but it will most likely be cross platform.

Give us master mode for totk, I need a reason to go back to that game again!

Considering they won't announce the Switch successor until next March, we probably won't see the new console until holiday season 2025 or early 2026. My guess for their lack of big releases for the Switch now is that they are pushing those big releases to the next console instead, this may include Metroid Prime 4, a new 3D Super Mario game, a potential new Legend of Zelda that is not like BotW and TotK, and a 3D Donkey Kong game. I think Nintendo may end the next Switch fiscal year with more ports or remakes before announcement of the new successor.

Metroid prime 2 & 3 would be good to see, not to mention those oft repeated rumours of windwaker and twilight coming to switch as well.
Oh well, when it comes to nintendo, I expect nothing, and whatever happens, is a nice surprise

They will need something between June and March. Assuming March is the Switch 2 launch.
I’m also assuming that Metroid and Pokemon will release in March on switch 2 launch.

When you watch the Pokemon ZA trailer it mentions simultaneous release which would suggest switch and switch 2

@KingBurger Those look like a great selection but knowing Nintendo they probably going to butcher them one way or another by cutting those to 30fps just like their waterdown HD Thousand Year Door port. When you realize that, it kinda makes you not wanting those for the current Switch and rather just stick to the original versions instead. I'm all for HD ports and remakes but if they can't improve on the originals then they need to stopped touching them.

For the first time I'm now hoping Metroid Prime 4 does not make an appearance at all in the Direct (at this point it would be better off on the Switch successor). Metroid games are not big sellers anyway, but they get especially screwed when released at the end of a console lifecycle.

Release Prime 2&3 this year, and then 4 next year as part of the launch or shortly thereafter.

I'm sure they'll have some surprises in the June direct.

Hell yea. This is great news. I've been slowly but surely losing interest in the current switch. I hate even typing that! But it's true, I've pretty much played everything I've wanted to play on switch with the exception of a few games. Hopefully we get some zelda, even if it's a remaster, and metroid. Those 2 in the second half will have me hyped.

That's good! For my wallet and to still get my wishlist games.

Really hoping for (including wild dreams):
1. Metroid Prime 4 as a final 1st party release for the Switch
2. Shadow drop of Metroid Prime 2 & 3 Remastered
3. Majora's Mask remastered
4. Eternal Darkness remake
5. A new 2D Zelda, or a remake of the BEST Zelda game ALTTP
6. OG Pokémon games on NSO
7. Any Fire Emblem remake (or a port of Awakening, or Shadows of Valentia)
8. A new Yoshi game
9. A new Wario Land / remake of Wario Land 4
10. Golden Sun remakes, or a new entry in the series

Hoping for anything Zelda or DK would be fine for me before they stop making new games for Switch

@KingBurger I think Nintendo need to hold some stuff back. Twilight Princess or Windwaker remastered (Metroid Prime style) into DLSS 4K HD would be epic, I'd make one of them a launch title on Switch 2 and release the second 18-24 months later.

I hope you're right about Metroid Prime 2 and 3, but I think you might be wrong, if the year is a bit light on releases I think they will spread them out.

@MarioBrickLayer These were my wild dreams, mate. I don't expect any of them to come true. But Metroid Prime 4 would be most welcome at this point, as a final big first party release.

I'm expecting remakes, remasters or some spin offs. So maybe Mario sluggers, something like a port of Links crossbow training, a remaster of Diddy kong racing, or Kirby air ride 2. Switch is in its sunset year. Stuff like a new 3d Mario, 2d Zelda, DK, are being held off for extra dev time and will shine on a fresh new system.

Did everyone forget that Fantasy Life i is coming out this year? That game alone will carry the end of the year (and beyond) and is much better than anything first party released lately.

I'm thinking that Metroid Prime 2 Remastered and Metroid Prime 3 Remastered will be revealed in the June Direct.

I think you guys should be ready for a nice surprise or two. While it's true that Nintendo has marshaled their best and brightest to prepare content for their next system, they are also aware that a 140 million user install base means a lot of potential for a big release on the current switch to fuel much needed revenue and profit into the launch initiative of that successor. I'm confident they have one more "big" surprise up their sleeves for the current switch.

Also, switch is like 15 million units away from taking the crown for most successful system ever, and they haven't even applied the end of cycle discount to it yet. It's going to do it for sure!

Besides Zelda WW/TP HD and Metroid Prime 2/3 HD... I don't be mad if Nintendo ports Rhythm Heaven Megamix or Wario Land Shake It to the Switch this year.

Would love to see that game get a "definitive" release, combining the Gamecubes additions and lower encounter rate with the dreamcast versions audio quality (iirc the music on the gamecube sounded lower quality, maybe to save disc space or something, but it was unfortunate considering the game had a fantastic OST)

@GOmar Far too early to say that. The co-developer Level-5 had replace Brownie Brown is also the Mighty No. 9 studio, so I'd recommend being cautiously optimistic at best

I think we’ll see Metroid Prime 2 remaster which has supposedly been finished for some time…

I guess my switch play time depends on what they announce for the second half of 2024.
Last year 2023 switch was my most played console out of all 3.
This year so far it is in third place 🥉.

@WiltonRoots I feel this way too. There's a few NSO titles I'd love to see (Mischief Makers, DK64, Banjo Tooie, etc), but I don't know if we will be seeing those.

@adrianfrg Yes! WW/TP would be fantastic. The Switch is kind of one of those consoles for me that I don't think I'll ever be 'done' with. Literally everything is out for that console, new and old. Ports like TP would just be the cherry on top!

@Pillowpants These are all really good predictions! I haven't considered a 2D Zelda. It seems like a very long time since the last one. A new Yoshi game? I'll always take Yoshi - I feel like this year I've just been bouncing between SNES, N64 and Switch Yoshi games. Super lighthearted and never too difficult.

I'm wondering what we will see in the 3rd party world. It feels like SEGA has been awful quiet for a while. Honestly, I would be happy with a few more NSO N64 titles, WW/TP or some (big reach) announcement for Oblivion from Bethesda.

@Grail_Quest Agreed - I think there's some life left in the Switch yet. It's just hard to imagine where they can go after this console with how exceptional the library is.

I'm honestly really glad we're getting one final Direct dedicated solely to Switch news before the successor releases. Now is the time for ports, remakes, DLC, and NSO titles. Still a lot of exciting stuff they can release without having to dedicate too much time/resources.

I think Donkey Kong Country Returns HD is inevitable with the upcoming park expansion themed heavily around this game. Will have beautiful new graphics and a completely redone soundtrack by David Wise.

Port over the remaining handful of Wii U titles. Wind Waker HD + Twilight Princess HD, Yoshi's Woolly World, Xenoblade Chronicles X. Also, upscaled ports of Metroid Prime 2 and 3.

Full remakes of Kid Icarus Uprising and Chibi-Robo 1 and 2.

A couple new titles that are relatively easy to produce like a new Mario Baseball, Rythm Heaven, or Wario Land.

DLC for Pikmin 4 to add a new winter level, and DLC for Mario Party Superstars to add 5 new boards.

Plenty of titles worth adding to NSO that will get people hyped like Banjo-Tooie, Diddy Kong Racing, Super Smash Bros, Metroid Zero Mission, Kirby Nightmare in Dream Land, Wario Land 1, 2, and 4, WarioWare: Twisted... I could go on. Throwing in some Japanese exclusives like Animal Forest, Mario Artist, and the Satellaview games would also be hype.

Bring back more budget eShop titles like Dillion's Rolling Western, Pushmo, and HarmoKnight. They could also do a digital-only Dr. Mario game or just Dr. Mario 99.

Hopefully, third-parties will also have something worthwhile to bring to the table like Pac-Man World 2 Re-Pac or Chrono Trigger HD-2D.

And finally, end the Direct with Metroid Prime 4, which will still launch this holiday on the current Switch but have graphical improvements on the successor console.

Let's go out with a bang, Nintendo! I believe in you!

Nintendo's resources are clearly being largely directed at Switch 2 development. This is a good thing.

@Blue_Dread I don't know anyone who bought a Switch specifically for Metroid Prime 4. Anecdotal, for sure - but only in equal measure to your hyperbole.

I think get ready for The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker HD and Twilight Princess HD dual pack, and the Metroid Prime 2 and Metroid Prime 3 HD releases, to gear up for Metroid Prime 4, which could be the big holiday release, if it's not shifted to 2025.

I would be interested in prime 2 and 3 ports. Maybe WW and TP ports.
