Strong Bad Episode 1 - Homestar Ruiner

Strong Bad Episode 1 - Homestar Ruiner (WiiWare)

Charming. Suave. Awesome. These are the words Strong Bad would use to describe himself. In a world gone mad, only one man can be trusted to save the day. A man with an attitude. A man called Strong Bad. As the star of the Homestar Runner Web cartoons, Strong Bad has been answering e-mails (in boxing gloves), pranking his friends, pummeling his enemies, and making people with questionable taste snort milk out of their noses for years now. And he’s branched out to star in Strong Bad’s Cool Game for Attractive People, a monthly five-episode series.

In Episode 1: Homestar Ruiner, Strong Bad’s plans to beat the snot out of Homestar backfire, and he ends up with an unwanted houseguest cramping his style. Now he needs to get life back to normal by any means possible. But wait, there’s more: Teen Girl Squad comics, achievements, funny costumes and arcade games. You can even send pictures and messages to Wii Friends using Strong Bad’s computer. So how about it? Can you handle Strong Bad’s style?

Are you cool and attractive enough to handle Strong Bad's style on WiiWare?

Telltale Games have been developing some of the most prominent and downright hilarious adventure games of the past several years, while Homestar Runner has been responsible for one of the most popular and ridiculously enjoyable Flash cartoons of this..

I love strongbad but doubt I will dump 5 dollars each month for this.

Why not make one big game and release it for like 10 bucks? Dont milk the game like that.

Awesome! I've been a big Homestar Runner fan for a while now. This the sort of indie content I want from WiiWare.

Man this game looks awesome and the vid is so funny. When I first heard this I wasn't so hot on it, but once I heard Telltale Games was taking the lead I was all over it. The vid looks as if it really catches the theme of the show, awesome.

Though I do agree with you Jaxathon, I'm not too hot on paying for the next one per month, but I admit that I'll buy it anyway. I'm a big fan.

I'm definitely going to get this!!! I love Homestar Runner and Strong Bad so as soon as I saw this, I almost got a heart attack (metaphorically). I DON'T CARE HOW MUCH IT'LL COST!!!!!

7. Jupiter Adept Canada 17 Apr 2008, 01:58 GMT

Being a cheap game, this'll be the deciding factor if I want to buy or rent point-and-click-em-ups.

"Why not make one big game and release it for like 10 bucks? Dont milk the game like that."

While I do like my games cheaper than cheap, if the entire content costs $25, I don't mind getting the chance to "rent" $5 worth and see if I like it before shelling out the other $20.

""Why not make one big game and release it for like 10 bucks? Dont milk the game like that."

Hush. What's good enough for Sam & Max is good enough for Homestar Runner. It's not any different than paying a small price per episode of television show episodes on iTunes. Only more interactive and less non-interactive.

You make it sound like actually spending "gasp* MONEY on a service that's well worth the price is some sort of unspeakable abomination to mankind.

So seriously. Pipe down and just enjoy getting what you pay for. Because the old saying still runs true: "You get what you pay for."

Avatar

10. pdrydia United States 21 Apr 2008, 18:35 GMT

Hey now, Karma, the game isn't out yet, and we don't know its content, let alone if it's "well worth the price." As far as we know, it could be head cancer. I'm not willing to pay $25 for head cancer--I probably wouldn't even pay $10 for it.

500 points an episode is a good price, as long as each episode is at least 2-3 hrs of content. The only problem is that there are 5 episodes...requiring another Wii Points card! Curses!! Foiled again!

This game looks like it has a lot of promise. I do want to know how much control the Chapman bros have over this. SInce I noticed that the characters' voices sound a little off... I know this was supposed to be a parody of infomercials where everyone has a "fake" sounding voice. However, the actual gameplay video (where SB and Homestar are on the track) also has those kinda funky voices.

18. HappyBob Australia 21 May 2008, 09:53 GMT

Telltale Games are doing phenomenal work with the episodal Sam & Max series. The laughs are more frequent and hard than most TV sitcoms. The Homestar Runner franchise could not be in safer hands.

"I do want to know how much control the Chapman bros have over this"
By all accounts, they are very involved. It was the same case with Sam & Max creator Steve Purcell, and before that, Jeff Smith for Telltale's game adaptations of the "Bone" graphic novels.

This whole project is a dream come true for me. Definitely my most anticipated WiiWare title.

@Posion
maybe using a different audio format to fit on Wii?

20. juhok Finland 25 May 2008, 19:31 GMT

@PoisonRamune

All the voices in every Homestar Runner cartoon/short/whatever are done by Matt Chapman (except for Powered by The Cheat -animations, which are voiced by Mike, and obviously Marzipan, who is voiced by Missy Palmer). So is the case with this game. They even said in an interview that they prefer to record at home (where they do all their voice work for the website) instead of a recording studio.

I'm really looking forward to this WiiWare title - assuming it even gets released in EU. If it doesn' become available for PAL Wiis, then I'll get the PC version.

@juhok Two weeks late.

While I understand that... It sounds like the voices went through another evolution (watch an old Tandy clone era sbemail and then watch a lappy video right after, SB's voice very different).

While being a consistant fan of HSR since the techno email... I am going to get this game.

Okay, so Penny Arcade has a game, now Homestar Runner has a game? Okay, now the next Internet guys to get a game should be VG Cats! Those guys are awesome! It would be like a combination of Penny Arcades and Homestar Runners, only it would have settings that would spoof other games and movies, and it would have those context-sensitive button actions like Conker did. It would be Awesome!! Awesome!!!

Why? Were you thinking of more? or less?

When you think about it it's supposed to be like like an interactive show like Sam & Max. I think it's pretty cool how they did that, If you don't like one part you just don't buy that part.

Avatar

38. Mickeymac United States 04 Jul 2008, 18:03 GMT

This is coming out on PC, right? I hope it does, then I can try a demo like in the Penny Arcade game(Sam & Max would be a better comparison, but I never played that game), hopefully for individual episodes, so then I can pick and choose episodes like how NNoah95 said.

More like 1000 points...

44. David77 Canada 29 Jul 2008, 00:45 GMT

I'm sure this game is bad. It's not because they have a bad art design, something they probably call "innovative, unique and new" that the game is good. They publish it on wiiware because it's the only place they can make something as ugly as that and nobody going to stop them.

Avatar

45. Objection_Blaster United States 29 Jul 2008, 03:33 GMT

@Vortex
Yeah, i know 500 is too cheap to be realistic. I'm hoping for 800 now. I think 1000 is a lil too much for an episodic series (cause 5 episodes=$50 then, AKA a full price game.)

Avatar

46. Vortex99 United Kingdom 29 Jul 2008, 21:00 GMT

@ Objection_Blaster
Cause 5 episodes = $50 then

AKA £35 GBP for where I live...
Anyway, I found out that i'm thinking it might cost 900 points, as here in the UK the Sam and Max episodes cost £6.30 GBP each ($9 where you live)

Avatar

47. Objection_Blaster United States 31 Jul 2008, 04:27 GMT

@Vortex Your math seems about right but 900 points is a weird number. they will either go for 800 or 1000 and I hope they go for the former.

Everyone seems to miss the point of "Episodic Games"
The rules are:
1. Shorter games
2. Lower prices
3. Released more frequently

Also, Money gained from the game (PC and Wii) goes to the Brothers Chaps, so when you buy the game, you support the site
